So, I'm aiming for some pretty competitive schools. I have these SAT scores:
780M, 760CR, 800W.

Now, I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't get a 2400, so I want to retake. However, if I do well on the Math Level II subject test (800), do you think that'd make up for my 780M SAT I? And if I get an 800 SAT II lit, would that make up for my 760 CR?

What test is generally considered more "intellectually demanding"? SAT II math/lit or SAT I math/cr?

Wow. I thought I was being arrogant for asking the same thing about my 690 Math. 780 isn't quite lousy by any means. The 760 CR I can somewhat understand though.

I wouldn't expect much sympathy on here. Don't bother retaking, do your best on the subject tests, and leave it at that. Write some essays this summer instead.

to be honest, those are all really good scores (not by any means "lousy").I think that most people even on CC would be happy with scores lower than what you got (including me) . No school is going to reject you on the basis that you got a 760 on CR instead of 800-If you want to retake do it, but don't expect that an 800 on Math II is going to be any different than a 780 in the Math SAT I. Maybe you could focus on other portions of your application instead

Uhh...share your wisdom for CR? :D Seriously, your scores are great! There is no way you can't get into HYPS unless your application essay is a real stinker.

i don't think getting 800s on Math IIC and Lit will make up for your lowsy scores. I think you should retake and try to get 1600/2400. you are a failure.

In general, the SAT IIs demonstrate an understanding of a broader variety of concepts. On the other hand, they are much less reliable as gauges of reasoning ability. However, most colleges don't differentiate between scores that are essentially identical (for example, 780 and 800); while you're justified in feeling disappointed in yourself, such a minor blemish almost certainly will not be the difference between an acceptance and a rejection.
