subject test preparation!?

One thing I've noticed about people preparing for SAT Subject Tests is that they always jump for "prep books" like Kaplan, PR, REA, etc., while failing to take real, timed practice exams. Just like with the regular SAT, "synthetic" non-CB tests are never like the real thing.

If you search the local public/school library catalogs, you will find several incarnations of the "Real SAT IIs" book, each with a test in every subject. The CB tends to publish a new set once every five years, giving you three to four accurate exams to prepare from. Using a standard college prep textbook and said exams should provide more than adequate preparation -- if you still can't get 700-750+, then you should reconsider the subject tests you want to take. Going out and buying expensive review books is rarely necessary.

while this is somewhat true, the real sat II books only contain one test for each subject which is barely adequate for preparation. therefore, one needs to use other prep books for practice tests. and in many subjects, there is a lot of redundant information that will not be tested on the sat 2 test. therefore, when ur reviewing, u want to focus on information that will definitely be tested. but if u do all this and cant achieve a 700, then u should reconsider ur choice of subject test

I agree fully with the OP. I mostly get subject test prep books just for the practice tests. I didn't know that the older version of the Real SAT II's have other tests.

I never did the practice tests. I have taken enough MCs to know how to do them, I just wanted to review the info.

Yeah, the best improvements come from using practice tests then seeing what you did right/wrong.
