Subject Test Scores

Hi. I'm applying to GWU early decision and I realized that on their site and collegeboard they strongly recommend subject test scores. Unfortunately, I don't think I did so well (I just retook them Saturday so we'll see). Besides subject tests, my stats are pretty good I think.

I was wondering if with my stats, not submitting subject tests will hurt me. I'd especially appreciate advice from current students of GWU, but any help is needed.

bump…anyone???

I thought subject tests were optional. My daughter did not submit hers 2 years ago.

I got into gw regular decision with a 2010 SAT and
SAT II’s
Chem - 710
math 2 - 690
US His - 680
GPA was a 3.3/4

Everything looks good for you, but it is really what they are looking for. Don’t get discouraged if you get differed.

You have an outstanding chance of getting in.

You are an URM with way above average statstics vis-a-vis general incoming freshman scores and GPA. Why wouldn’t they accept you? You may even get merit award and/or be placed into the honor’s program. Of course, if you write a lousy essay and make them feel like you are just using them as a safety, they may not accept you.

By the way, SAT II are only required for the honor’s program. Not required for general admission.

I think with your hook and score, you can even aim higher, like Georgetown. Go check their freshman profile. I believe even with Georgetown, you may be in the vicinity of the 50% mark in terms of scores and GPA. Given you are an URM, you may be able to get in with scores and stats at the lower end of the 25-75% range they publish in many top universities. Whether you like it or not, URM status helps you in the admission game, so don’t be bashful and use it to your fullest advantage.

Are SAT II’s really for the honors program only? I read on collegeboard that they are recommended though. And also, GW isn’t my safety school, but my target one. I was thinking of applying ED, but I didn’t know if I’d get good aid or even accepted with low SAT II scores. I still don’t know yet.

check this: it says SAT II recommended for honors, etc, not for normal admission.

I don’t understand why people are relying on secondary sources for admission requirements. If it’s important to you, go to the original source (the university’s own web site). Secondary sources are sometimes outdated.

They do not require SAT II’s I checked also.
