Subject Test Survey Help Needed

Thanks, ncm!

I took my SAT subject tests in Dec, 09. I didn’t need to retake them because I got lucky.

Math II: 800
Physics: 800

My S:
–Which test or tests did you retake?
Math II

–Why did you retake the test?
He left several questions unanswered–ran out of time. Just pretty much got flustered.

–How did your scores compare? Did you do better the second time? If so, what was the difference?
700 1st time & 740 2nd time. Learned to watch time & leave time-consuming problems until last.

So i guess it is safe to say that it is okay to take a subject test again if you can show improvement?

i retook the math level II because i got a 740 the first time and the average score for a program i was applying to was ~780. i took it again seven months later and got an 800.

My son took Math II four times! He is good at math and is applying to some very competitive colleges, planning to major in engineering and obviously wanted to do well, and was surprised by a pretty poor score the first time around.
First time didn’t study and got a 540.
Second time, studied and came up 80 points to 620.
Third time, studied some but ended up with the exact same 620.
Fourth time, studied more and came up 110 points to 730.
That’s it!

Retook my 760 in Math Level II to see if I could improve it, since I was already so close to an 800. Got a 750 on the retake; will most likely not be doing it a 3rd time :P

I have not taken any Subject Tests more than one time.

Hi… I have my sat in june… taking math 2 and chemistry…
i havent really started studying…
so how much time will it take? how much should study everyday?

I retook Literature and Math II.

For Literature, I retook the test because I wanted a perfect score. For Math II, I retook the exam because I had scored in the 50th percentile on my first try.

In Literature, I actually received a lower score (-10) the second time. In Math II, I improved by 60 points.

I retook Biology. Took it once in fall of my sophomore year. I didn’t study and felt awful after taking the test. I canceled the scores that day. I’d guess it was around a 600.

2nd time I took it January of my junior year (this year). I ended up with a 760, surprisingly.

Bump. So subject test retakes aren’t viewed negatively?

I took math 2 and Spanish (no listening) in May and got a 780 on math and a 650 on Spanish. I talked to an admissions officer at the school I want to go to and they said I really need to take a science test so I am taking Biology E in October and retaking math and spanish (since I have to be at the testing place anyway and I’ll probably be a little better prepared for spanish).

Physics, Math II, American History

I really liked physics, and I rocked the MC in the class. I didn’t do well on the test, but that was because we had covered around 70% of the material when the test came. I winged it, to be honest.
I toke Math II last minute, and figured that it would be helpful to add to my application. I did poorly and did not know much of the material.
Since I just toke APUSH I toke the American History one. I love history, and did well.

I did not take the tests twice, and did not even send them to colleges since I used the ACT.

chem: 650-770

HARDCORE preparation.

–which test or tests did you retake?

Math II.

–Why did you retake the test? (Presumably, to try for a better score, but was there some other reason? For instance, were you sick when you tried the test the first time? Did you enroll in another class in this subject after initially taking the test? Other reasons?)

I got the 700 with no prep at all. I thought that if I reviewed my trig (I was in calc bc when I took the test), I’d do better.

–How did your scores compare? Did you do better the second time? If so, what was the difference?

I got an 800 (improvement of 100 points!). All I did was review the law of sines, law of cosines, premutations/combinations. I took 2 practice tests (I got 790s on both of them).

January 2010
Math IIC - 690

June 2010
Math IIC - 800
Molecular Biology - 780
French w/o listening - 580
^Je ne peux pas bien parler francase :frowning:
I’m just not gonna send it i guess :P
