Subject Test

How important are subject test in the admission process? D17 is planning on applying ED (engineering) with strong grades, EC and 34C ACT. Has anyone applied ED without subject test and was accepted? How about RD without subject test and was accepted?

I got in as a transfer this year with a 34 ACT and no subject tests, but deferred and rejected ED last year with a 31 ACT and no subject tests (I’m not an engineering student). I really don’t think lack of subject tests would be a deciding factor if she’s well rounded otherwise, but they would probably be especially helpful for an engineering student. Does she have any AP scores?

If Northwestern is one of her top choices it’s worth at least trying 2-3 subject tests and sending the scores if they’re 750+.

I posted this back in June on another thread - but it applies here too:
My son applied to Northwestern, where SAT 2s are “recommended not required”. He called the Admissions Dept about them (he didn’t want to take any more tests!) and was told that the SAT 2s are for students that would like to show strength in an area that is not reflected in their grades and/or AP Tests. Since he had a 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT and scored all 5s on his APs he did not take any SAT 2s and was admitted ED to McCormick Engineering. Good Luck!
