Subject Test

So it’s been a few weeks since 8/26 Subject Test scores were released. I got an 800 on Math Level 2. I wanted to know if colleges would be impressed by this, since the curve on Math 2 is quite lenient. After all, it is only the 79th percentile.

I plan on taking the ACT in about 2 months, and the Chemistry Subject Test in June 2018.

An 800 on Math II is impressive but not nearly as impressive as something like an 800 on literature, given the percentiles. Don’t get me wrong: I commend you for the score, but unless you’re applying to schools that aren’t world-renowned / Top 50, a 800 won’t make THAT much of a difference and definitely won’t make you stand out, especially if you’re applying for a math-oriented major.

“Impressed” may be too strong a word. They will think you did a very good job on the test.

An 800 is an 800 is an 800. An AO won’t care what the subject is.

Nobody’s looking at percentiles - it’s the score that matters. It is important to understand that for several subjects, the percentiles are depressed because so few colleges request Subject Tests, that the ones that do are the ultra selective ones. As a result, it is the high achieving kids taking the tests. No AO is sitting on the floor cross-referencing scores with percentiles.
