Hi, I'm a sophomore and I'm taking my first two SAT II's in June, Chemistry and Math II. I should be able to get 800's on both without much difficulty. So, my questions are:

I'm a science/math person, so should I just take science/math subject tests?
How many SAT IIs should I take?

Get an 800 on those two tests and call it a day.

Don’t get too cocky either. I felt the same way taking Spanish and Math II … I ended up getting the 800 in Spanish, but only a 690 in Math (which isn’t terrible, but does not meet my standards for an Ivy League school).

oh … and btw, I am also a sophomore, which is nice because it allows some wiggle room.

My advice is to actually get those scores then ask further questions.

if you do manage to get two 800’s though, I think that should be fine, especially if you know you wnat to be and engineer, scientist, doctor, etc.

@AlexCuad and Jersey13: I got a perfect score and missed one, respectively, on both the Chemistry SAT II practice tests I took. I also am doing well in my Honors chemistry course and just took the AP test (which i think/hope i got a 5 on…). I’m also in Multivariable Calculus and an AIME qualifier, and got a perfect score on the Math part of the PLAN tests as well as both the Math2 SAT II practice tests I took, so Math will be no problem either.

Anyways, are you guys saying that i don’t need to take any more subject tests? I heard 3 was required for some schools, is this true? I was planning to take Bio anyways, but somebody on this board said you should take well-rounded SAT II’s (eg, take some history/language ones as well). Is this true?

^ Only Georgetown still requires 3 Subject Tests.

From what I hear most schools only require two now. Considering thoses classes … I think you should be fine. I have also heard something like that about being well rounded - which is why I took Spanish and Math … but I am not too sure how true this is. Some admin officers told me to show my strengths where they lie, others to be strong everywhere, so I’d say that if you could get >750 on a Humanities-oriented test I’d go for it.
