Are the subject tests generally comparable to their AP counterparts? I'm taking Chem, Math 2, and Spanish on the June test date--in May I'm taking the chem and Spanish AP exams, and I was wondering how much extra preparation you need to be ready for the SAT IIs...

Has anyone been through a similar situation? Should I buy and go through prep books for the SAT subject tests, just to be safe? Are the AP exams harder or easier than the subject tests?

Thanks ahead of time for any input.

subject tests should be easier than the ap exams. i took ap chem and got a 5 but only got a 780 (89 percentile - ouch) on the subj test. and i used so many prep books. for math 2, i did a few barrons tests which didn't help b/c barrons tested such indepth, sometime irrelevant material and also did many q's from a precalc textbook.

i bought books for the subj tests & aps but that's bc i was overreacting. just make sure you understand the material, then you should be fine with ap prep books

The material is basically the same, but take some practice tests to make sure you're familiar with the SAT II format and know what to expect.

Personally, I think the AP USH Exam was much harder than the Subject Test.

A 780 is only in the 89th percentile?? Ouch is right!

I thought APUSH MC section was comparable to the SAT. AP Bio is much harder though.

Of course, with SAT you kind of know what kind of questions you’ll get with the great review books that really have almost identical questions. But with AP you could get anything and need to prepare for the worst.

If I get a 5 on an AP exam, and then a 700 on the subject test, does that look bad?

I think subject tests are easier only because they’re much shorter and doesnt include any free response. Straightforward MC. The USH one had more specific facts and stuff I think.

@Arken233–If you get a 5, I think you’ll be good to go for the subject test. a 700 is a respectable score. 750+ would be better though. I think it’s usually the other way around (lower AP score, high SATII score), maybe the curve for SATII is nicer? I got a 4 on the AP exam for APUSH and then an 800. Don’t know what happened there! haha
