Hi! I was just wondering if Subject tests were required for a Freshman application. I thought they were, but according to their website it’s not… I just wanted to clarify.
One of the clearest admissions web sites out there says, “nope”:
"SAT II Subject Tests are optional. If you would like to highlight a talent in a specific area, you are welcome to submit SAT Subject Tests for consideration with your application. Subject Tests, particularly in foreign languages and the sciences, may be used for placement during the first year. Click here for additional information regarding advanced placement. "
@Daddio3 yup thanks. I just wanted to make sure because I could have sworn it used to say that two were required, which I marked down in the past. But I guess they changed.
I think it did change.
Dear lolafinkle : The point raised by @Daddio3 should not be dismissed. Be sure to check with your target colleges regarding their policies on course placement based on SAT II scores.
Foreign language is the most obvious player here. Many students will not take their Foreign Language AP exam in High School, but do not want to be placed into a beginner level foreign language course. If the SAT II is used for placement, the student will likely be able to save “elective credits” to use elsewhere during their four years of undergraduate study.
Exactly … my daughter will take her Spanish SAT 2 as late as possible (January maybe) and we will use the 4 free schools to send it to the ones who use it for placement.
