I’m applying to Gtown and I think I have a solid SAT – 1460. 4.3 GPA. My problem is I’ve done pretty badly on my subject tests. 710 on Math 2 and 590 on History. Gulp. I’ve taken practice tests in Literature and not done too well on those either (580). So I plan on retaking History, and since Math is my strong suit, I’m thinking of taking Math1 as my third subject test. I know it’s not ideal to take two subject tests in one area, but I’m afraid if I don’t, my scores will be too low. Does anyone have any thoughts about taking Math 1 and Math 2 and if it will penalize me? Georgetown doesn’t say you must take subject tests in different areas.
Which school within Georgetown are you applying to, and what’s your intended major? If it’s STEM related, taking two maths won’t look very good. Either way, I wouldn’t recommend taking both math tests since math 2 basically makes the math 1 test redundant; if you’re good at math, you can simply show that through a strong math 2 score. Also keep in mind that you must send all your SAT subject scores to Georgetown as per their policy.
I’m applying to the Business School. I know that Math 1 and Math 2 are redundant, but with Georgetown requiring 3 subject tests, I just want to put my best foot forward and I’m worried that if I take other subject tests and continue to get low scores, that’s not going to help me either. Sigh.
I do not recommend math 1 its curve is not as generous as Math 2 also it doesn’t look good to colleges if you take it and are in a math class higher than algebra 2
also anything above 700 is in range for more selective schools so you dont have to worry about your math score
if you really want to improve your score practice tests are soooo important
if you can work on literature, its a test that doesnt require much prep. Your math score is fine, unless you are planning on majoring in math or a math heavy field. i would recommend world history, if you’re good at that. As for taking both math i and ii, i think it should be avoided IF POSSIBLE
