Subject tests to maximize aid chances?

I am applying to several universities that offer large merit scholarships (Lehigh, Pitt, Stevens, etc.) that don't require Subject Test scores for admission. Would submitting good scores anyway (800 USH, 760 Math II) help me stand out from the merit scholarship applicant pool and gain aid, or would these submissions just be a waste of money? I'm anxious to get as much $$$ as I can...

I applied to Lehigh with an 800 on Math II a 780 on Chem and an 800 on USH and a 34 act and got no merit scholarship. I’m not sure what makes a difference to them or not but they seem to be very selective towards whom they give scholarship.

First you need to know your standing among other admitted students. If you scores/GPA are not well above the 75th percentile, you are not likely to receive significant aid no matter how many 800 you get in SAT2. If you are among the top candidates, then anything that may give you an edge up may help. We went through this last year for my D and regret did not send the SAT scores to a couple schools. There is no extra cost to submit SAT2 if you are sending SAT1 anyway.

@youw15h I have heard a bunch of stories like that: qualified candidates getting screwed while those who are less so get tons of $$$. That’s why I’m applying to so many places, I guess we’ll see.

@billcsho All of my scores and numbers are really good for Lehigh (and pretty much all three of the above schools). I’m 1st in my class, 4.0, 35 ACT, so I think I’m at least a reasonable candidate.

Ivy hopes…if your GPA is 4.0, and you have a 35 ACT score, and you are number one in your class, I fail to see how SAT II scores would increase your chances of any kind of aid…especially for schools that don’t require them.

Your supposed stats are already at the top of most school 's games.

I am not sure how competitive are these schools with ACT 35. I only know for Purdue, UIUC, or UMich that ACT 35 is around the threshold for large scholarships that some students still got nothing last year. Since OP is asking for large merit aids, it is going to be very competitive even with 4.0/35.
