Hello everyone,

I was just wondering how much subject tests are taken into account during admissions at Johns Hopkins. It says on their website that the tests are "recommended" but to what extent?

Seriously not that important. My firend jsut listed scores on the common app and never sent the realy thing to them. both were 690’s and a 710…her adcom counselor said she placed little to no wieght oin them during a presentation at her school last fall.

Take a look through old threads - this question has been asked a few times and I believe AdmissionsDaniel has answered it. But in brief, the admissions office intentionally chose the word “recommended”, not “optional” or “required”, so they’re definitely taken into account but not as much as other factors

The thing about subject tests is that only relatively elite colleges require or even recommend them. So, the majority of kids taking subject tests, in contrast to the SATI, are bright and motivated. As long as you do relatively well, like in the 50th-70th percentile it should be fine.
