Hi I'm 16 years old going into my junior year. I currently believe I want to major in engineering. I've taken 3 subject tests so far: 1) Biology M - 750 2) Math I - 800 3) Chemistry - 800. Do you think that in order to apply for engineering schools, or even other majors, it is necessary to take more subject tests? If yes, which ones?

No need. Most schools don’t require them. Of the ones that do, your scores are applicable and fine. Good luck. BTW, your SAT score will be more important. Remember the math will test stuff that you’re likely beyond and might have forgotten by the time you test. Good luck.

If you complete precalculus/trigonometry by the end of junior year, and you apply to schools that ask for subject tests, math level 2 may be desired for engineering applicants.

Check each school on what it wants for SAT subject tests, if any.

If you were going to take another test, Math 2 would be the best choice. Engineering schools will want to see Math 2, not Math 1, if they do look at subject tests. The few schools that ask for subjects tests, typically ask for Math 2 and either physics or chemistry.

Oops, didn’t even notice it was Math I. I’ve not known anyone who took it. I strongly agree, IF you need subject tests, Math II has to be one of them. Good luck.

<a href=“SAT Subject Tests - Wikipedia”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT_Subject_Tests indicates that nearly twice as many students take math level 2 compared to math level 1. Probably because it is the more selective schools that require or recommend SAT subject tests, so a large portion of students applying to such schools is advanced enough in math to take math level 2.

Still, math level 1 is the third most popular SAT subject test, behind only math level 2 and US history.

Thank you so much for the advice!!
