I'm going to be taking APUSH and AP Language and Comp. next year.
English is my favorite subject, and I'm definitely going to take that subject test, but just out of curiosity...how hard is the U.S. History Subject Test?
Oh, and I'm taking chem. honors next year as well...do you think that it will sufficiently prepare me for the chem. subject test?

I read AMSCO twice and I still think I bombed the APUSH sibject test, even after taking the AP exam. Don’t know til the end of this week though

I had a wonderful APUSH class and teacher, didn’t particularly study for the subject test and got an 800. It’s not just about knowing every little fact - more about understanding the major trends and attitudes of history - but honestly, if you have a good class there’s nothing tricky or unexpected about it. If you aren’t as lucky as I was with your APUSH class, I’m sure other people on here can advise you about study methods. Good luck!

^^The teacher is supposed to be incredible for next year…so…I suppose that will help matters
I don’t know what the pass rate for the AP exam is at my school, though.

We have a two-year APUSH program (first class is “accelerated” and covers pre-Columbian to 1865, second class is “AP” and covers 1865 to present; both classes are taught by the same teacher) and the success rate is absolutely incredible (all but three people out of ~35 received 5s). I took the US Subject Test in May 2009 (before the AP test) without studying at all and got a 780; I found that the Subject Test was a bit harder because it tends to test your rote memorization of facts/events with a more even balance between early, middle, and later historical material (the AP Test places a bit more emphasis on 1789-1914 and includes less pre-Columbian and modern material than the Subject Test, in my opinion). It’s all rather subjective, though; you should be fine.

Wow…it sounds like you have a pretty good program going at your school…

Amory- it depends how far your honors chemistry curriculum goes. Mine stopped at the ideal gas laws, and this would have not been sufficient for me to take the subject test. I took AP chemistry, and this class prepared me for the test. My advice would be to check the syllabus or ask the teacher to ask what subjects are covered throughout the course. The subject test covers almost all topics covered in the AP curriculum, the majority of which were not taught in my honors chemistry.

US is really easy, at least for me, I got a 770, but I also got a 5 on the AP Exam, so go figure.

AP US History+AMSCO+miscellaneous additional review book=success
