sublet culture?

i'm planning on staying at berkeley over the summer
i need a place to stay and since i'm not taking summer school i won't be living in the dorms
i know a group of people who will be living in the apartments next year but their lease starts in the summer, but they won't be living there during the summer so i'm thinking of subletting

so,
basically a 4 person apartment, each paying rent of 300/month
if i do sublet, i'll be the only one living in that apartment
what's the sublet culture?
do i pay 1200? or do i cover for one person and pay 300?
i was told by someone that usually subletters will pay half, but i'm not sure on that.
if that is so, then do i pay 600 or 150?
is there a certain rule in the berkeley area with sublet?

go on craigslist and look for the market value. 300 (depending on location) seems really cheap to have an apartment all to yourself.

im trying to sublet my room (Fulton & Haste) for $550, 2BR shared with two other people, but one of them (not including) will be gone for the summer.
