Can I submit the application now and submit the supplement and payment later on? Can I alter the application for other universities that I haven't submitted it for afterwords?

*afterwards.

I want to submit the application to a few universities right now and do the supplement later. Can I do that, or must I do the supplement before I can submit the application?

This is entirely dependent on the school. When you add your schools of interest to the app, you will see the instructions for each. Some will say:
This institution requires that you submit the following before you can submit your application:

* Supplement
* Payment
or similar, others will be moot on this point and hence implicitly permit you to submit the CA ahead of its supplement.

if we are applying early decision somewhere, we can like submit the common application + supplement solely to that school, and then make changes and submit it later on to regular decision schools right?

^ That's what I was wondering, too. I was under the impression that Common App is supposed to streamline the application process and send all your applications all at once. But if we're applying Early Decision, is there a way to send just that one application to the one school by Nov. 1, and then send in the rest for Regular Decision later?

Look more closely at the Common App instructions, but I know it said you can customize each one for the different schools you're applying for, so I assume that means you can also send them at different times. As I recall, you save it as different versions. I also read somewhere that you should print out and save a copy of what you submit electronically. Also don't forget that if you refer to the school by name, change that with each application!
