Submitted 12:00 PST

Do I lose?
My application was still submitted, but it according google, it just turned 12:00.
I planned on submitting my app 5 minutes before 12, but common app decided to go nuts on me and uncheck every checkbox and calling 1795 characters too long for an essay. It took me a long time to figure out what to take out of my essay and baaam.. Too late? : (
I really hope their clock is late by 15 seconds.

YOU ARE NOT WORTHY. STANFORD IS CLEARLY GOING TO REJECT YOU NOW.

The exact same thing happened to me a mere one month ago, haha. I submitted my app to Stanford 3 minutes late (RD art supp deadline was Dec 1), I emailed the admissions office a couple minutes later and they said it was fine, they have a couple minutes grace period after midnight.

I just had the same problem, I started submitting starting from 11:50 PST, but CommonApp just started having errors, telling me that I have left blank spaces for the sections that I’ve filled, and stalled me until 12:03 =

But more than that, the essays in my supplement somehow got cutoff (no I did not exceed the character limit). I tried e-mailing admissions but received an automated response =

I just wasted 90$ =

I didn’t think I would get in anyways.

I’m not sure if they have the same grace period for the supplement and CommonApp though, but anyways, I think I won. It says “submitted” next to my supplement and commonapp, meaning it got in by the deadline.
heart rate jumps back down to 140 bpm

qwerty111, if you submitted it successfully, I think you got it in.

Yes, I submitted successfully, but two of my supplement essays did not reach =. I tried e-mailing but they are closed until Jan. 3 and received an automated response

■■■

What do you mean they did not reach? CommonApp won’t let you submit stuff if there’s nothing there. You had to have at least submitted the majorty of your essays.

No, my computer somehow only copy/pasted the first sentence of each essay and I did not want to pass the deadline and just submitted it the last minute, thinking that I would explain my situation in an email.

I know I’m an idiot for doing this but I really lost myself, I was about to have a heart attack on those minutes, i did not know how to act.

I am already depressed, so please don’t call me an idiot, I already know I am =

What is one way of making sure they will accept your application if you were a little past the deadline time? I live in hawaii, so I had to submit mine at 9:59. Unfortunately, I forgot. I was about 50 minutes late…

They give you several months, and you wait until the last second. That’s Stanford smart!

"Please also be aware that we will not be extending the deadline for students who experience technical difficulties with the Common Application website. Those difficulties need to be resolved through the assistance of the Common Application technical support staff.

As I noted in an earlier update on this site, nearly 1,000 would-be applicants to Stanford (last year) mistakenly believed they successfully submitted their applications via the Common Application Web site when, in fact, they did not. These students completed their applications online and paid their application fees but failed to actually “submit” their applications online by the deadline. As a result, we were unable to consider their applications for admission."

Quoted from stanford’s website…

Stanford must proclaim a definite deadline on their website to keep procrastinators somewhat honest about getting their applications in on time. However, it is my guess Stanford has a grace period after the deadline to accept applications.

This is just my speculation. My bet is they even accept all applications submitted today (Jan 2) and tomorrow. They don’t want to deny qualified students the right to be accepted. The admissions department will be in the phase of scanning documents for several weeks.

If you submit late, send an email to the admissions department explaining your situation and I bet you get a response saying your application will be reviewed along with all others.

Keep in mind it is in Stanford’s interest to consider as many applications as possible because they get to select from more applicants and it impacts their admit rate.

NewandImproved, there’s no reason to be rude.

rymd, does it give a date next to the “submitted” message? Just because it was submitted doesn’t mean the deadline was met.

cardfan, they could, in theory, automatically reject those applicants who missed the deadline and still achieve the same effect in their admit rate :P
