submitted essay typo.......HELP!

I applied EA, and i was reading over some of my essays, and in one of them, a word was typed twice. i have no idea how it happened, because i can't think how i did it, and i typed it on microsoft word, and word catches it if a word is repeated. my only thought is that I just completely messed up, or it was a problem w/ my computer. what do i do??? do i contact admissions and just explain the situation or what? would something like this increase my chances for rejection, or what? please help me

it was one of the optional essays, btw

What you do at this point is go enjoy life. There is no need to contact Admissions about a duplicated word in one of your optional essays. Given that they're in the middle of reading now anyway, they'd probably be more annoyed by someone calling to tell them there is a typo in an essay than they would by stumbling over a simple typo. This is not something to worry about.

I bet they get this all the time. One typo won't hurt you. Only if your essay were so riddled with typos that it betrayed stupidity or indifference would it affect your chances of admission, I think. Like mootmom said, go enjoy life and be free from college applications (for a little while, at least).

thanks...hope you guys are right about this. the sentence was something like "We talked talked about it..." think they'd notice it, or really look into it if they saw it? cuz it wasn't a grammar or spelling problem, or even a sentence structure problem...just a duplicated word

Do. Not. Worry. About. This.

End of lecture. :)

mootmom is right. You realize how neurotic this sounds, right? It's a single word. On the off-chance that anyone notices, they'll completely ignore it. When I read applications, I only get mad after I see at least three or four egregious errors (bigger than typos) and even then it rarely has an effect on the overall application.

Re...lax : )

I see stuff like that all the time - typos, duplicated words, you name it. Remember: your essay is your VOICE, it's not a writing or copy-editing test. We're looking primarily for substance. Of course you shouldn't have 20 ridiculous errors, but barring that, it really only matters what you say.

lmao....duplicated word...that's too funny

I mean I myself am big on correcting my erros errors* when typing and talking on aim, but yeah contacting admissions for something like that is kinda neurotic...ben golub is right

by the way...no relation between the two bens right? ahah

Well, actually we both come from this Aleutian tribe in which family names are English first names and first names go last and can be whatever you want. ;-)

lmao...good one ;-)
