So I submitted my FAFSA roughly two months ago, and I see that the colleges that I have been accepted to have not received it yet, is this a problem on my end or do I just wait longer?
You need to follow up. Schools pull the FAFSA info when they are ready for it, but if you have several schools that haven’t done that and it’s been 2 months, something is wrong.
Go into your FAFSA file and see what’s happened. Did you not sign it? Parents not sign?
My FAFSA was processed successfully two days after I submitted it, and I submitted it before applying to any colleges and I also haven’t confirmed going to any college. Do these things impact whether my FAFSA gets received by the college?
What date did you submit your FAFSA?
I submitted it on 10/15/16 and it was processed successfully on 10/17/16
Contact the colleges…and ask them. Contact the financial aid office. See what they say.
Are you sure the school number codes are correct?
The school number codes are correct, but I remember that on my FAFSA I used the transfer from the irs option for the financial information part and so there were some blanks on some questions. Did I have to fill out these blanks that the irs option did not fill in even though the questions are not applicable to me or my parents?
*on another side note. I clicked make a correction to my FAFSA when I did not need to make one, how would I go about since it says continue or start over on my FAFSA
If your FAFSA was processed but the schools have not received it, check to make sure you don’t have any issues with your social security number on file with the schools (for example, check the Common App if you used it to apply). Obviously, your SSN on the FAFSA is correct or it would not have processed - but you might have submitted an application to colleges with an incorrect SSN. What about your name - did you apply to the colleges using the formal name used on your FAFSA? If not, that may be the issue. Another thought - double check the school codes. I used to work at a large state U that had different school codes for med and law schools - we did not get those FAFSAs for processing on the undergrad side. And make sure you did the 2017-2018 FAFSA (not 2016-2017).
@kelsmom I wondered if you or anyone could answer a related question - I added 4 schools to FASFA and submitted, tomorrow is the deadline for another school but I didn’t add it. I went back in to add it and it says it’s processing - so do I have to wait a few days to add it? Then I will miss the deadline, what do I do? Please help, thank you!
@cloudysmom, I don’t think the application deadline is the same as the financial aid one at most schools. As long as applications are in, I think both you and OP are fine. You have to wait a few dsys to update your FAFSA. OP needs to call her colleges to check the status of hers.
@austinmshauri Thanks, I didn’t think so either but I checked and about 7 of the 10 schools have the same deadline, which we missed. Now it says I need IDOC but it won’t let me log in and the schools were closed today. It won’t be done processing in time for me to add schools before the deadline, I hope they understand but I guess we could have done it weeks ago, sigh, although we just added 2 schools friday to our list. This is so stressful and now I am trying to figure out IDOC, this was so much easier when I applied to college a million years ago!
The ‘deadlines’ might be for priority financial aid or any FA from the school, but the actual deadline for FAFSA filing is not until the end of the year (school year) for which you are applying.
If you need CSS/IDOC, that’s another filing.
Just get it done tomorrow. You can contact the schools to see if this is an issue.
For others reading this thread…best to submit things at least a week before the deadlines…especially when the deadlines happen on a holiday weekend.
