Submitting 2nd FAFSA to same school

Prospective freshman here,

I submitted the FAFSA several months back. As I’m looking over my FAFSA for 10+ schools, I’ve found & corrected several mistakes that hold some impact (address, bank account savings, etc.)

I’m wondering if it’s possible to resubmit the FAFSA to the first 10 schools I applied to months back. With the recommended filing deadline passed, is it possible to send in a 2nd FAFSA to same school? And even if I do send it, does it create a brand-new second file (hard for college officers to process) or update/replace my previous one? In my understanding, they would only judge by the first/earlier one.

Middle-upper class student with relatively small chance of receiving federal aid anyway; is it worth the hassle?

Thanks!

A couple of things…

Your bank account balances can’t be changed. Those are as of the day you filed that original FAFSA to those schools. You don’t change them if the account balances change AFTER your FAFSA submission.

If you have a correction that needs to be made, you can go in, amend your FAFSA and resubmit to the school(s). Your original date of filing would be the one for your filing date.

You are not really sending a “second Fafsa”. You are correcting the first one. You aren’t creating a whole new FAFSA. You are amending one you already sent.

You will need to correct transaction #1, which is your original FAFSA. As @thumper1 noted, you can’t change bank account information unless what you reported originally was not correct (in that case, correct it to what it was on the date you originally filed). Schools will use the date you originally sent them your FAFSA as your date of record. When you make changes, be sure to actually submit them … many students miss this part. You’ll have to electronically sign with your FSA ID when you do it, and depending on the changes you make, your parent may also have to sign.
