Several of the colleges my D is applying to have a spot on their common app to upload a resume. Is this worth doing or is it overkill? She does have one or two items on her resume that don’t fit anywhere else on the common app.
Only if the items are real game changers. Generally, items that weren’t important enough to list among your top 10 activities aren’t worth attaching a resume. The one exception would be an activity that requires a lot more explanation than the CA’s 150 characters will allow, and could make a real difference in the admissions process.
In 90% of cases, application readers will thank you for sparing them another page of material to read. They have 10-15 minutes to read an app, so the process tends to reward conciseness. This is the same reason attaching 5 teacher recommendations, even when it’s possible, is a bad idea - it waters down the strong ones and forces a reader to skim through everything.
Thanks @NotVerySmart, that’s what I thought.
