Submitting Additional Information to Colleges

Would it help my chance of admission if I sent midsemester grade reports to colleges? Only Penn asks for them, but currently, I only have a 3.53 GPA and I'm getting somewhere in the range of a 3.7-4.0 for this semester at the moment. Or would sending more paperwork just annoy them?
Likewise, would it help to send them a letter with relevant information I left out of my application. Recently, I won an award from my college for an essay I wrote. Also, I recently got accepted to an internship at a magazine, as well as an international healthcare volunteer program, and an science undergraduate research program. Do colleges want to know about my summer plans.

I admit, in turning in my college apps, I've relinquished control; this is me grasping for anything.

I think you should definately send a letter saying all of that. Basically, if it's not something great, don't send it...BUt a 3.7-4 from a 3.53 average along with the rest of your accomplishments would be good I think.

But then again, I applied to UPenn too, so don't send that letter :P

Hah, thanks Jacknjill.
Is there such a thing as too insignificant to report?

I think you should, sending extra material like this will go in your favor. It may also let the admissions department know you are interested in their school.
