Hi,
I’ve been an art student for ~10 years now. I have some very good personal pieces as well as a complete portfolio from AP Drawing. I’m thinking of submitting a supplemental art portfolio to schools like Stanford.
However, there’s a bit of extra work involved ($5 fee, art resume, statements, earlier application deadline). It is worth the effort? I’m 100% sure that I’m applying to engineering departments. Art has been a component of my ECs, alongside some math groups, writing, and internships.
Will it be beneficial at all?
Conventional wisdom is NO since your portfolio won’t assist people considering admitting you into an Engineering dept. If it was visual arts of some sort, then YES. Otherwise, since it doesn’t directly affect your future plans, omit it for fear of watering down your application.
Yeah. One of my friend’s son wanted to submit an acting portfolio but college consultant didn’t see a reason to do that for a business major.
