Submitting AP Scores on Common App

"but the colleges EXPECT me to self-report all of my scores "

this is not correct.

self reporting is only possible for AP scores and no school that I know of requires you to self report ALL your scores. If you score all 5s and don’t report any, they don’t care.

I’m going to submit four of my AP scores, and ignore the other three. :P

If you have AP scholar with distinction as an honor, you need 5 scores to support it.

You self-report on the CA and CB sends the official. Adcoms look at these to guage your success in the AP class. Nothing wrong with 4s. They won’t make you most super competitive for a tippy-top, but not reporting is worse:

Tell them you took 7 APs and then omit three scores and you leave them suspecting either that you weren’t organized enough to complete this step or that there was a major problem with the scores. Omitting the 3 is your choice. Don’t leave them guessing about the other two you plan to omit.

Think like an adcom. Doesn’t do you much good to save scores for credit, if you can’t get admitted.

I don’t think I’m an AP Scholar, I’ve actually never heard of that before lol.

Anyways, I don’t think omitting a few scores necessarily shows only those two options. It may have been that I decided not to take some of my APs (since the exam is optional), especially seeing how I took 5 AP classes this year. I’m just going to rationalize that they would give me the benefit of the doubt since it’s only the self-reported section haha.

What should I do if there are not enough slots for all my SATIIs and APs where i got 800s and 5s? Should I attach an additional document? If I do, in the additional document should I omit my additional scores that are not 800s or 5s, or would that be suspicious since I’m already submitting a additional document?

Calvin, I don’t know where you are applying, how strong your record is, etc. I do know adcoms don’t have time to second guess, cannot do that, ethically, and how a kid makes certain decisions throughout the app, says a lot about his judgment and more, in general. You want to be on your best game. Why do you think it’s better to leave off a 4 than claim it? Nothing wrong with a 4. Penty of the competition will report 5s and 4s for AP classes they completed by now.

Well two of the four 4s I got were one of the more “easier” APs.

@PinkiDink Just put your extra scores on the Additional Information part of the Common App.

Looking at what Looking Forward said (message 24), I have a question. I had read on many CC threads that an applicant usually does not send in the official AP test scores (ie have the College Board send them) to the college until AFTER you matriculate at one college. Also, my son and I visited 5 LAC’s (all were very selective, top 10), and we were told the same thing. Looking Forward suggests something different, ie that you have CB send your AP scores now, during the application process. As far as self-reporting, I’m still not sure whether it is better to put none, all, or just the 4 and 5 scores. I know that this was your question, since you had a “3”, but most of the people who responded to you just say “Put the 4’s down. A “4” is good”, and they don’t address the question of the 3’s. Hope someone can address your question, because we were wondering the same thing.

@jennieling What you said is correct. You send the official AP score report when you take your senior year AP’s. There’s no need to send one before then.

Can I say National AP Scholar and then not report any of my AP scores? I’ve got 3 4’s… I was brutally sick D:

bluenotebook: that would be strange not to report any of them. 4’s are good. And you should be reporting scores in order to back up your National AP Scholar status.

My point is that AP scores should be on your app, even if that proves to be self-reported only. Taking the class alone says little, just that you took it and got x grade from that teacher. At a top school, mostly 5s and some 4s is fine. A 3 in a class that’s not related to your major is less critical than one that relates to your major. In the latter case, oops.

I’ll check into the question- we see a download entry. I’ll see if I can learn its source.

Can I say National AP Scholar with distiction and then not report any of my AP scores? I’ve got 3 4’s… I was brutally sick D:

^ Exactly what I;m thinking. I’ve got horrible scores also 4,4,4,3,3.

Hey everyone. Because of all the other science classes I took junior year, I only had room for 2 APs, microeconomics and calculus AB. My HS is a top 50 in the US, so the classes were certainly tough. Calc was my best class, I got an A also, and my teacher is writing my rec. But something happened on the AP, i dont know what, and I ended up getting a 3… I’m applying to some very selective honors programs and good schools that decently match my stats, other than my 3 in calc ab. My math teacher said she can include in her rec how i was one of her better students, but I’m not sure if I want her to mention it just in case colleges don’t realize. What should I do??

If possible could somebody answer my question?
