Stanford says that AP scores aren't required for admission. I'm wondering if they will think you did badly if you don't send the scores in? Is it better to send in a 3 instead of nothing at all? How about a 2? Is you answer the same for other top colleges?

Thanks

i had the same question. The answer is this: colleges only see AP's as a bonus and don't really care all too much about them. With that said, if you can't get a 5 or a 4 don't send. But don't use the fact that they don't care all too much not to do well. Its not going to get you in over someone else, but it can help to reaffirm your skill in a certain area (always a bonus to do well on them ; ) ). This is basically the same with all other colleges.

You do not send AP scores until after you've been accepted. There is no need to send AP scores when you apply.
They usually have a spot and you just write down your AP scores
And yes colleges do care very much about AP scores, in an intense pool of applicants you need everything you can to set you above other people. If you take an AP class and don't put a score it looks bad, it shows that you didn't learn enough in class and just have a bloated A. A 3 is bad, unless you self-studied, it's pretty easy to get a 3. A 3 here and there is okay but try to get mostly 4s or 5s

I've heard sort of the oppposite...i have heard that in competitive colleges, they don't look to hard at AP's scores because virtually everyone DOES have 4's and 5's and they can't really place you out of classes (with the exception of languages). I don't think an AP will help you gain an edge (colleges will also know your school, so if your school is not that competitive than AP's are important becuase it can help them see how you will do given you schooling; however, if you go to a competitve school, than ap's prob won't matter too too much because they know that it is damn hard to get an A). Also, if you are taking an SAT in the subject and do well, then whether or not you did well on the AP won't matter.

These are just things i have heard...can anyone confirm if this stuff is true?

well, i don't think anypopne is saying they'll HELP you, what i think the poster wanted to know (and what I want to as well) is whether bad scores will HURT you.

Well, you don't have to send a bad score, so it cannot hurt you. But the previous poster was correct. It can seem slightly bad if you are taking an AP course (in a field you "like"/want to major in) and don't take the AP. However, if you do get a bad score, you can remedy the situation by just taking the SAT 2 in that subject.

What about classes like European History or Psycology? There is no Sat2 for those subjects.
