Submitting Application Right Before Deadline

I submitted all my schools’ materials a few days early with the exception of UPenn, which I just submitted. I read that some schools may penalize applications that come in the day or the deadline or something. Is that true? Will my app be hurt because I submitted it today?

Just because it’s on reddit does not make it true.

No

OP, I think I’ve read at least three posts in the last week written by students who submitted their applications AFTER the deadline. I’d bet they wish they were in your position now of having gotten them in on time!

Makes no difference if you are at 11:59 the day it is due or a month earlier.

You’re fine. The issue is past years where there was some tech snafu at the last minute and kids couldn’t submit until well into the next day.

There is no penalty for applying on the deadline; many thousands do that despite advice to try to do earlier. Procrastination is something we all suffer from at times. The main risk you have is doing something wrong in the application or forgetting to order something sent. Offhand, I just remember mention of an applicant some years ago who applied on the last day to Harvard and Yale and sent the wrong essay to each, i.e., Harvard got his essay praising Yale and Yale got similar one praising Harvard, and he wanted to know if that could affect his being considered fairly by either. (And, no, I do notnot know whether he got into either).
