Submitting both Math Subject Tests

Hey all, I started my MIT application last night (:D !!!) and I had a quick question I couldn't find an obvious answer to online. I took both the Math I and Math II Subject Tests along with a science, and I scored 780/720, respectively. I know that MIT officially has no preference, but is it possible to submit both so they pick the one that they decide is better in the same way you can submit both ACT and SAT Reasoning scores and they pick the better one? Or do I have to pick one? If so, any suggestions as to which? Thanks!

Yes its possible to send “both” or “all”. If you send them your complete score report from College Board, they will get all and can pick what they want to consider.
The risk is that they will also see the lower score and be unimpressed.

So if you don’t want to “show everything” I would send the Math 1, 780. If you are going to pick only one to send, then give your higher score.

If you are concerned that they will want to see “higher math” function and that you are capable of scoring > 700 on Math 2, then send both - there is no reason to “hide” your 780 on Math 1.

I completely forgot about the score report haha, in fact, I’m pretty sure I put MIT down as a recipient for my subject tests! I don’t want to hide any of them, as I figure >700 is pretty decent, just wasn’t sure which to put on the actual application for them to see first  Thanks!

For MIT 75% of the admitted students score above 760 on their Math subject test (SAT II) and more than 25% get an 800. See <a href=“Admissions statistics | MIT Admissions”>http://mitadmissions.org/apply/process/stats</a> Amazing place.

I would expect most take Math 2, but <a href=“Tests & scores | MIT Admissions”>http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/tests</a> does indicate that they will accept Math 1 or Math 2.

Pick the one with the higher score – they really do not have a preference.

Thanks for the confirmation @molliebatmit‌! I’ve decided to put the higher score in my actual application, knowing that both will have found their way to admissions through score reports :)

On a related topic, is it ever beneficial to submit both? For instance, if someone were to receive the same score on each, would it be better to submit both of them to show consistency, or do they just need to see one to get all the information they think is useful?

Over-analyzing :)

Perhaps if they were both 800, but how important can that be (other more rigorous competitions e.g. AMC/AIME and BC Calculus score, etc. probably have more value at that rarified level that MIT is looking for)
