Submitting College Application

Does it matter when I submit it as long as it's before the deadline? I mean, I'm not planning on submitting 2 hours before 12:00 midnight on Jan 1st, but I was just wondering if it looks better if I send it 20 days earlier instead of like 5.

Well realistically it depends on which schools your applying to. Some (like Harvard) have already begun reading RD apps, which means it might be better to submit it earlier so as to have a more fresh reader, rather than one who is jaded by the repetition.
Check on the respective college sites; I’d say especially if they have a reasonably popular EA/ED program, there’s no point submitting RD early because they won’t bother to look at it till Jan/Feb.

Well I’m applying to a few ivy leagues (not Harvard), which obviously have popular EA/ED programs, so I guess it wouldn’t matter?
Also–If my application is one of the first ones read, won’t the admission officers “forget” it sooner?
I realize that, for Ivy leagues, every single detail matters. I guess what I’m trying to say is-will it really make a big difference if I submit it closer to the deadline?

I ask the same question towards the universities I’m applying to on common application.

Don’t worry about it - just submit your applications when they are ready.
The focus of most of the Ivy leagues right now is selecting the best EA/ED applicants, so they won’t care about RD for the time being. When they start reading again in Jan/Feb, I doubt they’ll read in order (because by that time all applications will be due so they’ll have thousands to wade through), so there’s really nothing you can do in this respect. As you note, the difference between when your application is actually read is marginal.

Alright thanks!

They’re not gonna reject/accept you based on when you sent your app. in. Much better to turn in a quality app

^
If the school does rolling admission its favors to apply early as possible due to minimum spots a school can only offer.
