Harvard says, "We recommend that you send your application by this date if possible so that we may create and begin processing your file. Our alumni/ae interviewers would appreciate your sending the Common Application/Universal Application by this date to allow them to begin the interviewing process where possible." I submitted a common app yesterday, which is 4 days later than the 15th.. Would it hurt a chance for an interview or admission in general? Thank you.

Ooops, there’s another person who posted the same thing… I totally missed it. But do you know if there is any correlation btw putting a common app later than Oct. 15th and not getting an interview? Also, will the admission start to look at my Common App, if my transcript and teachers’ recommendations are not submitted yet? My school just had a week-length break, and there’s only one college counselor for the entire school… It’s taking much more time than I thought.

@Gibby, as I said in the second post, I noticed that there was the same question for that. But still my second question is unanswered. The first post you posted doesn’t apply my question, because the questioner asked if all materials should be submitted by Nov. 1st. My question was if the admission officers start to read the Common App essays before Nov. 1st, even if the recommendation and transcript aren’t sent yet. They are two completely different questions. I appreciate your answer, but please read what I was asking thoroughly before you do so… Thanks.

Gibby is the man and he was just trying to help you out. You don’t have to get upset or rude haha.

And the consensus seems to be that no, it does not hurt your chances at all. Regardless, you missed the “deadline.” The answer to your question doesn’t change the fact you didn’t get it in before Oct. 15th.

Once you submit the Common Application and Supplement, a file is created for your application materials. I believe certain items need to be in your file before it is read; at a bare minimum, I would imagine one of those items needs to be your transcript, otherwise they would be reading your file (and essays) in a vacuum.
