Submitting school essay as part of application

Some of the schools that I’m applying to require me to send a graded essay from a humanities class as a part of my application. If I’m applying in fall of 2018, does it reflect badly on me if I submit an essay from December 2017 (my junior year)? The policy is that essays from junior year are fine, but I wanted to know if this is a red flag among admissions officers.

Did you by chance take AP English Language & Composition in junior year? An essay from junior year is appropriate. It tends to be a big year for writing. Also, you’re applying while the school year just got started, so you don’t have many to choose from yet this year.

“The policy is that essays from junior year are fine…”

@Groundwork2022 No, my school doesn’t offer english APs. But junior year definitely was a big writing year for us nonetheless. Just wondering if December is too far in the past, especially because it’s from first semester.

No, I get why they say a writing sample from junior year is fine, and I’d go with it.

You could probably just change the date if you are worried about that. But i think youll be fine. thats interesting tho, ive never heard of that application
