Submitting the Application Close to Deadline?

Hi guys. Quick question. I was planning to submit my Penn application today, but unfortunately, my teachers have not finished their recommendations yet. I have everything else completed. I was wondering, if I were to apply no later than the 25th of October (for ED), would I still receive an interview? I live near Boston btw, so there will likely be a lot of people applying in my area before me and I really really really want to have an interview, especially since I am applying ED. Also, I understand that if I submit my application around that time, I won’t be near the top of the pile in terms of getting an early read. Will that hurt me? Will they give me the same attention on my application if I am near the middle/end of the pile and they have already accepted many people? Is that a sign that I am not as interested (because I don’t want it to appear that way; it is my dream school)? Will the fact that I am a legacy applicant make it so they spend any more time on my application? Thanks.

I don’t know the exact specifics of the Penn admissions system in this manner, but I’m sure that you applying near the end of the deadline is not going to hurt your application.

I would think that they set the deadline for that express purpose, of making sure that they have the chance to find someone to interview you

Are you completing the Common Ap? I thought all you have to do is invite the guidance counselor and the teachers and you can send off your application. Am I laboring under a false belief? Eeek. My son was going to hit “send” on his apps tonight.

I found I’m correct:

And UPenn is Common Ap. So send your application. Good luck to you!

@OspreyCV22 Thanks! I asked my guidance counselor the next day, and I found out the exact same thing. I submitted my application + supplement to UPenn last night. One teacher coincidentally uploaded their rec this morning. Still waiting on guidance counselor, one teacher rec, and supplemental rec.

TheWaffleMan149:

Admissions does not coordinate with the Interviewing Group to ensure that everyone gets an interview They wait for no man, as the saying goes. Although Penn is making a huge effort to ensure all will get an interview they are only at about 92%. Last year, in RD, there were so many kids waiting to be assigned that Penn Interviewing asked us to volunteer to make phone and Skype interviews. So the two are not codependent.

@amanivy When I said that, I meant that they set that deadline because that is how much time they predict that it will take for their interviewers to reach out. I understand that many went without interviews. They set the deadline as the absolute last day so that they have time to review your application and contact as many interviewers as possible. Pretty sure OP gets my drift. Sorry if it was confusing!

TheWaffleMan149 - nah I took too many dumb pills today.
