<p>Yes there is interest but it doesn't begin to accrue on a Subsidized loan until you are done with college.</p>

<p>The definition of a subsidized loan is a loan where the interest is paid for you (by the government, usually). You're thinking of an unsubsidized loan, where the interest is accrued immediately and not paid.</p>
<p>Ryan is correct. UNsubsidized Stafford Loans accrue interest immediately. Subsidized have the interest subsidized by the government UNTIL you graduate.</p>
