subsidized loans

Hello,

When is the best time to apply for a subsidized loan? I am considering this for the Fall 2010 school year, have any of you applied for this loan before?

If you apply for financial aid from the university (with your FAFSA) they will often offer Federal Direct Loans as part of your package. These can come in both the subsidized or unsubsidized variety. I never applied for them, other then applying for financial aid.

i spoke with my advisor, and she said that it will start "popping up. What does that mean? It will come within the next few months or weeks? She wasn’t very specific

ive already completed everything (entrance counseling and MPN) but my award still isn’t showing up on isis. i need it to show up before preview so i can do meal deferment, i think, and i need a housing deferment. am i not completing a step im supposed to?

It partially depends on when you filled out your fafsa, sometimes my loans don’t show up until pretty close to the start of the semester. One day, I get an email telling me financial aid has been updated, and boom, they’re there.

I don’t remember what paperwork I had to fill out, I just remember signing some stuff, I think the financial aid website has the full list of stuff you have to complete before you can recieve your loans, but they’ll show up on ISIS even if you havn’t done the paperwork.

ok thank you, this helped a lot. I was unlucky bcuz i filed my fafsa on April 8th or something, and I received very little financial aid money, since I was late. So, next year, hopefully, I will get more money. I am just worried bcuz my dorm rent is due August 1st. And I cannot get a rent deferment.

i dont know if this is wrong, but i was just reading the UF site about loans, and it says that you do entrance counseling, accept your award, and then sign ur MPN. does it matter if i signed my MPN at the same time i did entrance counseling? office hours at sfa are not very numerous, apparently. i did this a few weeks ago, and i still dont see any loan awards on isis
