I ended up in a substance free double in alice lloyd hall. I'm thrilled about the hall in general; i'm slightly concerned about the substance free part. I didn't request substance free, and definitely plan on drinking/partying on the weekends. Is it likely that most of my hall will not drink/go out? Not that that would be terrible or anything. . .I'm just curious.

ya in general its gunna be less of a bumpin hall and less ppl goin out :(. Substance free dorms tend to be filled up with non-party goers. Also if you get caught with anything in these halls you get in a LOT more trouble than a regular hall (where its like a light slap on the wrist lol)

Its not all bad news though. Ur in a pretty good location (i was in baits as a frosh) and nearby theres a lot of things goin on
I actually finally decided to shell out a lil extra money to live in that area, but most people agree its worth it, so you should be fine

^I didn’t even know there was a light slap on the wrist lol. @Kath just be careful, never advertise that you have alcohol in your room if you do, and try to find party friends/people in your same situation your hall and if not go to other halls during the first week and you’ll be fine. Also make sure you’re not vomiting in the hallway or anything because that could be a problem too.

Well that’s kind of unfortunate, but I’ll live. I heard that most dorms aren’t entirely substance free – only parts of them are. Is that true/ does anyone know if that’s true for alice Lloyd?

My roommate and I got put in a substance free hall last year, but almost everyone did go out occasionally, and a lot of people had stuff in their rooms. Just be smart, and you’ll be fine.

No halls are entirely substance free. Usually it’s just one floor or hall in the building.

Alice Lloyd is definitely not all substance free ([Alice Lloyd Hall](<a href=“U-M Web Hosting”>Alice Lloyd Hall)). And you are worrying about not finding a party living on the Hill area?

All dorms are substance free and you can get punished for having stuff no matter where you live (again, just a small slap on the wrist). The substance free community just means that there is more of a community agreement not to have substances in the room. I’ve lived in both substance free and regular halls and there was no difference. People still went out and partied in substance free. You’ll meet people with the same interests no matter where you are, so relax. Maybe just don’t make it loud and obvious if you choose to drink in your room.
