Hey, I was just wondering if anyone here successfully appealed their financial aid offer by mentioning offers by other schools. If so, what was the school and the difference between offers before and after the appeal?

Yup yup.

I went to Duke Up Close, talked in person to a financial aid counselor/advisor person... I brought the offers from Dartmouth and JHU, the former was a good deal lower (~7k) and I mentioned some current family issues that might not have been reflected in the CSS/PROFILE and our EFC at Duke was lowered considerably that day on the spot.

Are you sure? I wrote to the aid office and told them Cornell offered 4k/year less than Duke. They said Duke is not adjust it aids to match other's.

Sorry. I mean Cornell offered 4k/year more grants than Duke.

I'm in the same boat as you house. Columbia offered me 14k more grants than Duke but my F/A officer said that Duke doesn't have as much money as Columbia (yeah right) and they don't match other offers.

I'm sure because she printed out a corrected report right there for me.
