Success rate of getting into closed Biology classes?

Despite what I've heard and seen posted on this board, my advisor has assured me he can't force me into my bio class since it's not my major. All of the BIO 311C classes are full, but the only one that works with my other courses and work schedule is actually closed, not just waitlisted. My dept. and HPO advisors suggested calling the Biological Sciences department to get clearance for the class, explain my situation, etc., but seriously - what's the liklihood of that? What are the chances that in the first week people will be dropping and I can somehow get onto the now-filled wait list and into the class? Damn being a transfer student sucks...

During the week check whenever you have time. Classes without waiting lists open randomly when even one person drops. I wouldn’t count on getting into 5 classes you want this way, but yeah, it’s definitely a possibility. It just sucks missing the first couple classes.

I called the Bio department this morning, because it’s really going to screw me if I can’t get into this class. They said going to the class I want and talking to the instructor can help but I still might not get in. Of course, the class that works best for me happens to be with the most popular professor (Sathasivan) so even his waiting lists are full, and the only other class that works with my work and course schedule is with Riggs, who I’ve heard is awful. My only other option is to shift my morning class back an hour to 8am (bleh, I’m so not a morning person) and then have Bio with Brand, who seems better than Riggs. I’d also end up having a 2 hour break and I’m not sure if I want that either.
