Success VS Happiness?

Hey all,
I’m currently a freshman at UGA and am in a bit of a pickle. I’m not exactly sure what I want to do with my life, all I know is that I want to go into the social media industry. So my intention is to focus on PR and graphic design then pray that does me well lol (also new media, but that’s more so a bonus). Here’s the thing: UGA has exactly what I need academically speaking. A major in PR, a minor in studio art (GD focus), and the new media certificate BUT I hate Athens. I’ve been in the Atlanta area for years and cannot stand the idea of being away from the city. Not only is the campus not ideal (to me), but I’m overall just unhappy with my college experience. My friends and city are 60 miles away and it makes me miserable.

So with that, I’ve been thinking of transferring. GT is my ideal campus, but I could never get in there AND it’s waay too stem based. Emory also seemed to be great academically, except y’know, the cost of tuition alone is crazy. So I’m left with GSU. I know I will have no issue on getting in, my worry is if the curriculum will be enough for what I want to go into. GSU also seems to be less highly ranked compared to UGA. I guess what I’m asking is: which one is more worth it?

Also, if you have any other suggestions or know of how the programs are, please let me know! I’m just a girl trying to figure her life out haha

Honestly, I wouldn’t transfer. UGA is a far better college than GSU and will afford you more opportunities. Athens is, what, 1.5 hours away from Atlanta? If you’re feeling that homesick, get a car (if you don’t already have one), schedule your classes Monday-Thursday from now on and go home Friday through Sunday. You’ll have the best of both worlds. Plus, you can go home on breaks, summers, etc.

I’d stay at UGa. Get involved in some extracurricular activities. I think you’ll find your tribe. Enjoy Athens. You have your whole life to live in a big city.

Honestly, if UGA makes you miserable, you should transfer. If you are a hard-working student, you will find many opportunities wherever you go. I know what it’s like to hate a place that you are living in, so do what makes you happy.

There are 36,000 students at UGA. I am quite certain that there are students like you and activities that you would like. You need to go out and find them.

I think that if you transfer then you will find that no university is perfect. If the academics are just right where you are, and UGA is affordable, that is two huge things to give up.
