Successes with Financial Aid appeals?

Hey everyone~ So i finally got my financial aid award letter and it came out to a disappointing $10,000 per year…which is not something my family and i could afford… I’ve gotten better offers from schools such as Villanova (who gave me twice as much), but Boston College is my absolute first choice! I’ll be crushed if i cannot attend.

Can anyone give me and success stories with them appealing for more financial aid? They expect me to pay $42k when my efc is $36k… can anyone give me pointers on appealing? They have an online form, i’m sort of clueless on how to ask for more…

thank you so much in advance!!

I would say appeal. You might get lucky, but based on your financial condition, it doesn’t look like they are going to give you more.

You it’s worth a shot as I said you might get lucky. Good luck :)

why would they not give me more?
i just found out my efc is actually $30k which makes it a 12k difference of what i can’t pay. =</p>

this is pretty much what they’ll say:

private institutions determine their own EFC, and do not use the federal one. this is where the CSS profile comes into play.

they’re just pretty stingy with financial aid. nothing you can do about that. maybe they’re out of money too…considering the economy.

but you should still try! you never know :)
