successful appeal :)

jes.
you heard me.

my appeal to cal berkeley was successful :)
i got in for the spring 2008 semester
but hey beggars can't be choosers, lol

i cried when i got i found out
b/c seriously, by april 31st, i thought i was done for

now i'm on the waiting list for FPF
which i doubt will happen for me b/c i'm #167
and that's waaaaay down

but oh well, cypress community college here i come!
:)

CONGRATS!!!!

You'll love it here, it was by far the best decision i made in my life...i love it here

any by the way, its not "cal berkeley".....its simply "Cal."

We're the only UC that can call ourselves Cal because we were the first one. We used to be called University of California and "Cal" was just short for that. So its not like UCLA can call itself Cal LA or UCSD Cal San Diego. It's all ours.

Congratulations! Even as admissions standards become higher every year, many students still think coming to Berkeley is a right, not a privilege. The appeal process can be trying, but those who come out undoubtedly develop a newfound appreciation for our humble university. I truly hope that, at some point, you'll be able to come here to live, work, and play. I am not well-versed in the waiting list procedure, 1-6-7 doesn't sound particulary promising, but it's seems like you're going to have to wait just a little longer until your moment of ecstasy is realized. Hope all turns out well.

right on! welcome to berkeley, ur in the top tear!

Congrats. ^tier! ;)

Congrats. ^ lol

my bad on the spelling...irony

Congratulations! There's an April 31 in the Admissions calendar?? Whatever, your in... :)

Congrats! :)

yay more latinos! congrats.

you live by cypress? i go to cerritos and im going up there spring 08 too.. but im going for FPF.. haha but thats cool! cypress is close to cerritos! congratts!

ab_med - Is "Cal Berkeley" just part of the old nomenclature or something? My teacher (who is quite old/old-fashioned) refers to Berkeley as "Cal Berkeley" every single time he mentions it.

This is from wikipedia:

At the time of its founding, Berkeley was the first full-curriculum public university in the state of California and thus was known as the University of California. As occurred in other states with only a single major public university, University of California was frequently shortened to California or Cal, for ease of identification. Because the school's long sports tradition stretches back to an era before the founding of the other University of California branches, its athletic teams continue to be designated as California Golden Bears, Cal Bears, or simply, Cal.

As a reflection of the University of California's development into a multi-institutional university system, the term University of California is no longer applied to the campus outside of varsity sports; the official name is University of California, Berkeley. Informally, the campus is called UC Berkeley, Berkeley, or Cal, which are all official variations. The term University of California has come to refer to the entire University of California system. The campus office for trademarks disallows the use of Cal Berkeley,[46] though it is occasionally used colloquially. Unlike most University of California campuses, which are commonly known by their initials, usage of UCB is discouraged (as is University of California at Berkeley),

Congrats! :-) Welcome to Cal.... yay.

Congratulations on the appeal!
Not very many people succeed.

I'm sure you'll have a great time at Cal!

From what I've heard, it's because non-Berkeley students hear Berkeley students referring to it as Cal, and assume that it's a shortening of "University of California" that left out the Berkeley.

The Cal-Berkeley thing is actually a relatively recent phenomenon (well, in terms of university history). More recently, it's been further revised to Cal-Davis, Cal-Irvine ect.

Eh, it may be "wrong," but no one can control language drift (at least not perfectly), so it might end up one day to be the accepted way of shortening University of California along with UC.
