Successful college interview?

So based on your one conversation with one admissions officer – if an exceptional student, who spends his entire interview discussing with great enthusiasm and knowledge his scientific research or art work or community leadership, but asks questions that could be found easily on the website, admissions would view that as a “bad” interview? Even if the report was highly positive and strongly recommended admission?

I think not. I know that’s not the case.

(And lack of knowledge in the school is not evidence that an applicant is a sociopath.)

It is true that one way students show interest in Brown is at their interview? Yes. If I feel a student is a “casual” applicant (and I’ve had quite a few this year), I do mention that in my report. However, I can have a “casual” applicant who is still outstanding – and it is my job to recruit this student so that if s/he does get into Brown, s/he will go.

I know this seems hard to believe at this stage, but one of our jobs as interviewers is recruitment. If any of our interviewees get accepted, we are supposed to call them and convince them to go to Brown.

Yes, some people get a bit too confident in themselves and what they “know” quite frequently on CC.

“An interview can wake the living but it won’t raise the dead.”

This has become counter-productive and detrimental to the thread. I am more than willing to continue and all questions you may have, as well as personal attacks against me, in Private Message form. I have cleared out my inbox, you can send as many as you like, I can promise to have them read at the end of the day.

I just don’t want to take away from the thread anymore, and I don’t want to give up on what I believe, either.

Feel free to ask questions already posed, if you so desire, as well; I know I haven’t responded to every question in the threads, and I don’t want to make it like I’m avoiding anything.

Yank: I think what you mean is “a good interview can heal the sick, but won’t raise the dead.”

that’s a quote from a Brown admissions officer that’s in one of my Princeton review books.
