successful harvard transfers? advice?

for the successful harvard transfers on the board, if there are any- what were your stats or the reasons you think you got in? do you have any advice? my problem is that I haven't gotten to know any professors or TAs well, I am enrolled mostly in lecture courses and have large sections. I also have few extracurriculars in my current university, so I was wondering if any of you have surmounted these problems. Thanks!

yeah im interested in the samething...

i guess successful harvard transfers no longer peruse these boards...any other successful transfers to selective universities then?

I had +3.9 at a Seven Sisters school, scores in the 98-99th percentile, and was very involved in theater and music ECs. Many of my transfer classmates had much, much cooler stories than that (a 4.0 at MIT in Physics who wanted to be an English major instead; an ROTC soldier fluent in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean; an 18-year-old Russian immigrant with a videographic memory; the student who'd had the highest score in the history of the Turkish national university exam; a neuroscientist who was a company member in the Boston Ballet; 4 cowboys from Deep Springs; etc. etc. and this is out of a group of 54 kids.) The "bottom of the class" consisted of people like me without extraordinary stories who were just A students and highly involved at great schools like Stanford, Wellesley, Georgetown, Cornell, UVA, and Penn.

This isn't to discourage you from applying; I think it was a miracle that I ended up in that bunch, and it could happen for you. But it's important to be aware of just how tough the competition is and to apply widely if your current school isn't meeting your needs. I also got into a couple of other places that would have been a fabulous choice and a great fit for me relative to my first school.

If you transfer, you probably won't find an 18-year-old Russian immigrant with a videographic memory...but you will undoubtedly be in the company of a few cowboys from Deep Springs....

hanna, did you apply as a sophomore or a junior transfer? and thanks for the info. i know i probably would need to be more involved in order to have a shot, and my GPA isn't that great, so I am guessing I should apply in sophomore year when I have had more time here.

Both, but I was only accepted as a junior.

"“a 4.0 at MIT in Physics who wanted to be an English major instead;”"

Adam Wheeler!

Oh my god. That’s actually him hahahaha
