Successfully Transfering to USC

Just wondering what i could do besides getting good grades to position myself as a good candidate when applying to transfer to USC for fall 2011. Has anyone here successfully transfered to USC or know someone who has? I've heard about joining clubs and volunteering and other things. If you have transfered to USC what did you do to get in? or if you know someone who has what kind of things did they do while at community college?

any help would be greatly appreciated. i emailed the office of admissions and they said there is nothing “extra” i can do besides having the best GPA i can attain. I know theres more too it than that though since everyone who applies has a high GPA but not everyone is accepted.

Have a high gpa, write good transfer essays saying why you are transferring from your current school and why you are a good fit for usc and why usc is a good fit for you. Also extra curriculars showing an interest in your major or leadership/community service and an interest in contributing to student life always beneficial. This advice applies to transferring to any school, not usc in particular.

thanks for the reply and advice. I’m most likely going to be a psychology major so i was thinking of joining the psychology club on campus and also doing volunteering. Most likely mentoring for students, or helping out in nursing homes and animal shelters. probably all 3 within the next year.

Keep in mind admissions officers are good at seeing when someone just joins a bunch of random clubs for the sake of adding them to their list of EC’s. Psychology club would be good as well as volunteering for something relating to psychology; try to stick to things related to your major or that demostrate leadership skills. Also, commitment is important.
