Such a Random Question...

I am doing a project for school and before I set my topic in stone I was wondering what you guys think of the Anti-drug commercials aimed at teens and young adults? I know this question is so random, but I figured that since this is the UCLA board, people who post here must be quite smart ~ I value what you guys have to say!

Thanks for your input!

Ah kissing up...I like it. =D

Let's see...anti-drug messages. Well I think it's hard to take the theme seriously when just about any show directed at teens and young adults condones drug use -- marijuana. So there are mixed messages.

I am sure you are referring to "harder" drugs. And I am sure there are many people who liken marijuana to alcohol, cigarettes and even chocolate. But I think this minimizes the detrimental effects of marijuana -- especially considering it is a gateway drug.

Interestingly enough I did a presentation on why marijuana should be legalized. I feel quite the opposite, but I wanted to argue it from the other side. I nearly convinced myself. ;)

almost convinced yourself eh? that worries me lol - legalization of marijuana would have no beneficial effects on society.... well, Hershey's sales would probably skyrocket and they would become bigger than Microsoft, but other than that ;)

To JeNeSaisQuoi, what is the prompt you were given for the project. Of course the effects of anti-drug commercials and such is a good topic, but it depends on the focus of the class and purpose of the project itself.
Personally, I think those anti-drug commercials are more for parents who see them than the teens they are supposedly aimed at. They aren't really good commercials for appealing to teens. Then again, I do like that one anti-smoking campaign by http://www.thetruth.com

Icarus:

Wow. That commercial was good.

The project is for a video production class - we just started this semester - and we're playing with the idea of our first project being a 30 second anti-drug commercial, which we would eventually submit in a local competition; but we might just scrap that, and the competition, and do something random/stupid if we can't think of anything good... there are only six people in the class, so we pretty much do whatever we please...

ah thats a very cool idea.
