** I know my EC's suck, but I'm trying to get them up Junior/Senior year

** School doesn't rank, but I have one of the higher GPA's, top 10%, maybe top 5% (school isn't very competitive, nice school district but not many kids go to Ivies)

** I have not taken any SAT's yet but I did get a 191 on the PSATs, which I know is very low but I did not study for the test at all, and also had never taken any sort of test like it. Since, I have been studying rigorously for the SAT's which I will take next year. MY score will definitely improve from the PSAT- SAT predicted score of 1910.

** I'm not sure what I'd like to major in, both History and Nursing interest me. I'm between like high school history teacher and nurse, random I know haha.

** I am Hispanic, not sure if this helps my chances?

** Female, from Pennsylvania

So, assuming all goes well (Straight A's, 5's on all AP Exams, successful EC involvement, raised SAT Score) what are my chances at Yale?

Schools I'm considering:

Villanova
Duke
UNC
Loyola Maryland
Georgetown
Yale (for my dad but I'd like to go :/)
Princeton (Ditto.)
Pepperdine
UCLA
Pomona
UPenn
Penn State (scholarship? My dad makes a lot of money ef's it all away, currently paying for college entirely by myself, dad makes $200k+, not a candidate for financial aid, right?)

Could you chance me please and also recommend schools that would be a good fit? And perhaps schools that would give me any kind of scholarship?

Thank you!!

You are better off putting this on the chance thread. Also, It is very hard to pay for college yourself. If you go instate, you are looking at 20K a year. You don’t want to take out more than a total of 25-30K in loans for 4 years. You’re going to need help. With the income at 200k you aren’t going to get FA from anyone. The privates are going to be >55k a year when you’re a freshman. Even with great merit aid (20-25k). How are you going to pay for that? I would have a long talk with your parents.

Compare yourself to other peers that go to your school. Honestly, my school is way different from yours, so comparing yourself to me or one of the other posters here wouldn’t be a good comparison. For instance, you’re in National Juniors Honor Society as a freshman. We don’t have such a thing at my school and NHS is only for Juniors+ (as it is for many schools I believe).

Just remember for your ECs that quality beats quantity. Don’t be one of those people that joins a ton of clubs and doesn’t get anywhere with them. Join a couple and excel at them. Showing passion for what you do is one of the best things to do.

I would also prep for the SAT if I was you. Try to get a 2100+. My friend got into Yale with a 2080 and a 33 ACT, so if you think your SAT was low then try the ACT.
