Such high GPAs?

It is very difficult for college admission people to standardize GPAs from many different highschools, so you should really be concerned about how you are doing relative to others in you school.

I agree with others that CC has made me apply myself more, and that CC tends to attract students who are interested in the top 100 (often the top 20). You'll notice that if there's a thread called "chances!!!11 cal state northridge!!" the person will get few to no responses. Or if the college in question is relatively unknown, then few will answer, if any.

Also, although there are many ways to calculate weighted GPA (cut-off for extra points as in the UC system, or only weighting AP courses, etc.), the general rule is to weight honors/AP/IB classes on a 5-point scale.

You do have to take into account the large amount of grade inflation at some schools. On the other hand, a lot of the people on this board are way above average.

I have very little faith and trust in the data provided at CC. Being an open forum that everyone can join and can claim whatever they want, there's a lot of craps floating around here. We've all heard of people making fake celebrity myspace account to gain the attention they lack in real life. CC might be another channel for those kind of people to live out their fantasy; there is no way we can distinguish between the genuine and the BS.

It's mostly the braggarts who post their stats here. Plus, given the grade inflation at some schools (where 50+ students will have a 4.0 GPA) grades can be pretty meaningless.

Colleges are looking for more than numbers. Don't let the showoffs get you down.

Dont worry about it...,my gpa sucks 2.8--> i thought i was bound to get rejected everwhere...at the moment i'm 5 for 5, perfect when it comes to admissions and the last two are coming out 2moro and i have a good shot at both, so don't be discouraged by these people most apply to the same top10 schools..

Yes i get very discouraged by these boards also too because im very clueless on going into college and how i want to achieve that because i dont even know my exact GPA at the moment and im a junior in high school. This is the first thread i have EVER posted because its been hard relating to other topics when i dont have a clue what they are talking about
so im totally their with you when it comes to GPA?s and other people getting rejected when you only have so much to offer.

Im a new member here, and Im kind of worried because everybody here seems very intelligent with very high grades, but Im starting to worry because I want to go to a really good college and my average is about B or B+, but ive seen that a lo of people that have my same average get rejected. So I dont really know what to do? Whether to start doing better in school or loosing my hopes of being accepted in a good university.

^ Define * good*. If by good you are talking about the Ivies, then yes, you will probably have a tough time getting into college. Also check out the following article, it may help you out. Remember though, you simply can't expect to get into the top of the top schools with mediocre grades... there are kids all over the US and even the WORLD who are fighting for 'your' spot.

Dont get discouraged
for me though, CC correctly predicteed my chances at which schools I would get into and not

Reddune - though some could perceive this as honking my own horn, generally, the information provided by *** senior members *** is pretty reliable, and if it isn't, other senior members are usually there to fix it. If members have a record of much posting, it's pretty unlikely that all the posts they have contributed have contained meaningless text.
