Sudden change of major?

So, basically, throughout my entire high school career I was set on majoring in some sort of generic pre-law major and getting into an average law school. I’ve taken 9 AP classes (including biology and calc ab), passed all the exams, scored in the 2000+ SAT range, made ELC (top 9% of my class), became mock trial captain, club president, and part of a young senators leadership program. I’m also a minority student and have a few things I’d like to incorporate into my personal statements. Overall, I thought I could get into some mediocre UC’s with my stats.
Well, this past summer, I took up an unpaid civil engineering internship out of curiosity. And since then, I’ve decided I’d much rather go into engineering. My dad’s always encouraged me to get into it. I’m pretty good at mathematics, and I’d love to major in the biomedical field. The only problem is that I haven’t taken a single physics class. I know it’s like, insanely stupid to apply to impacted/competitive engineering schools without having taken ap physics/chem/calc bc. But I’m suddenly very adamant about making this switch. I just feel like I’ve been on the wrong track all along and colleges won’t be able to look past this…
Is there any way I can get into Cal State Long Beach, Pomona, or Riverside’s engineering departments? Some reaches include Davis and Irvine. Like, can I include in my personal statements that I made a change of major, or try to explain why I didn’t take physics? I’m not even gonna apply to Berkeley or UCLA at this point. Any advice would help. Feeling very lost and hopeless.

UC/CSU GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
SAT scores?

Although it is recommended to take Chemistry/Physics and Biology if you plan to major in Engineering/STEM, it is not required. If you have a competitive GPA/Test scores, you should be fine in applying to several of these schools.

GPA: 3.95 and SAT score: 2050/2100 (not officially, will be taking new exam next month)
I’ve taken AP bio and honors chemistry but unfortunately not physics.

You have an excellent chance at CSULB and Cal Poly Pomona. UCR is a Match and UCI is within Reach. UCD would be a Reach but still worth an application. You might want include UCSC/SDSU/SJSU and SLO is another Reach school.

Good Luck.

Great feedback, thank you very much.

Can you switch into a physics course this year?

The CSUs other than CPSLO admit by eligibility index (a formula of GPA and SAT or ACT score), so the absence of physics in your high school record has no effect on them, as long as you meet the a-g course requirements. The UCs’ holistic review readings may notice the lack of physics, which can be a disadvantage, but not an absolute bar, if you apply for engineering.

If you do not take physics in high school, you may find physics in college to be more difficult, since high school physics may be a recommended prerequisite for college physics.

My semester started over a month ago so it’s too late to make that switch. Wish I could’ve sooner! And thank you, very helpful input.
