Sudden weight gain?

Hey all...so I've always been small. In December, I was 5'7, 125 lbs. I've always fluctuated between 125 and 135 since my junior year of high school.

Now, four months later, after getting a physical...I'm 5'8 140 lbs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna starve myself, but I just don't understand...

In terms of what is different this semester is that I am actually eating 3 meals everyday, and drinking a lot more beer (I'm pledging a fraternity this semester). I'm also lacking in sleep, so I'm KINDA afraid that this is just stress weight gain. I haven't worked out at the gym once this semester, but I have run a lot (intramurals), and I walk a crap ton on campus....soooo, in short, I'm just kinda worried about my body...I'm gonna start working out again but anybody had a similar experience? Keep in mind that I make my own food everyday. I eat out once a week, if that.....

I did the same thing but I was working out at the gym and gained 25 pounds. Then when I stopped working out I lost all of it.

5’8" and 140 LBS. OMG! Soooo fattttttt… ;)

It’s probably all that beer.

haha i feel ya. ill start hitting the gym again…i guess i’ll go with this weight gain and make the best of it, we’ll see :)

As you get older your metabolism slows down, for some that happens later in life for some that happens right around now. I used to be a really scrawny kid since I had a fast metabolism and then senior year it suddenly slowed waaaaay down and I gained a lot of weight and also got a bit taller.

gym gym gym gym weight room lol

A lot of people don’t realize how much more influential genetics are in determining the shape of your body than exercise. Fat people who exercise tend to be healthier than skinny people who don’t exercise.

Manhattan is correct … I read once that there were some prisoners who volunteered to eat 10,000 calories a day in front of physicians. They gained weight (over the course of 4 months) but then lost that weight almost immediately after returning to their normal routine.

15 pounds in 3 months is not sudden, plus you grew 1 inch taller.
Isn’t puberty great, bro?

You’re a guy? 5’8 and 140 seems pretty skinny. 5’7 and 125 definitely seems tooo skinny.

yep, like I said, I’ve always been the smallest out of all my friends and what not. It’s not a big deal, I don’t really care, but I was just worried that it was a stress weight gain but i mean ive been having a great time this semester…my other stressful semesters, i lost weight. Just a little curious bout the whole thing

It’s probably a combination of the beer and fast food—mainly the beer.

I think you answered your own question, get your fat ass to the gym, dont think walking half a mile to class is going to make up for your three meals of fast food. Start drinking light beer, fatty.

lol light beer is for babies

Light beer is still extremely caloric… why bother? I agree with DC.

I mean if you’re drinking to get drunk yeah go with light beer, but if you’re drinking for the pleasure of it then don’t crucify your taste buds with light beer.
