I've been reading a lot about how important showing interest is at schools. I applied to USC and feel that I showed little interest, even though it is currently my number 1 school (followed by UA's big scholarship). Can anybody recommend what I should do at this point? Or if interest is a big part of acceptance, since the school is actually pretty big?

Stats at a glance-
4.0 UW handful of honors and APs
710R/670M/800W- 2180 SAT
Ranked 2/19, top 11% (little nervous about this as well...)

Outstanding counselor rec, decent teacher recs, and very very good EC's.

Is there anything I should do to give me an edge on acceptance? Am I looking okay for now? Thanks...

I don’t know why you would be nervous, your stats look great. According to my admissions counselor, your transcript is the biggest factor in admissions, but the review of your app is holistic. Interviews are evaluative, but it doesn’t hurt your app to not have one. You might want to contact your regional admissions counselor with any questions/concerns you have, so you not only get accurate responses, but also so your counselor knows who you are…I understand they are one of the first to review your application. Hope this helps and best of luck!

PS if you’re not too busy, chance me for fun?

Thanks a lot. That is a great idea…
I emailed her a question already and I’m going to continue asking stuff and showing how interested I am in the school. I hope I didn’t supremely screw up on my essay -_-

Your stats are great, so you’ll get accepted into a good university. Which college are you applying to: Viterbi, Dornsife, Marshall, Annenberg, etc?

When I applied a few years ago, I did not write a good essay, but with great recs, ECs, grades, and decently good test scores, I was accepted into USC. Now, I’m a senior at USC. At that time, USC was my first choice among schools that accepted me, which included UCLA and Cal (not including schools that waitlisted me like Stanford and Brown). I think USC could take interest into account considering that your regional counselor will read your application, but interest is not the main factor for admission because as the last poster stated, the application review is hollistic. If you did apply to liberal arts colleges, some of them will place quite a bit of weight on interest.

@nhsharvard- Great information. I applied as undecided, but put my interests in business, philosophy, and CS. How have you liked USC since going? Any second thoughts? How difficult have your classes been?

I have learned since my essay to USC how important interest is at smaller schools especially. I applied to one LAC, and Emory (notorious for declining anybody not very interested in the school). I made sure to drop names of specific clubs and classes so they know I’m not just throwing another school onto my list.
