Sufficiently Depressed by Lack of Chances

After reading 10 threads or so, I am very depressed at my chance of getting into any of the Ivies. So, would somebody chance me and let me know whether or not I actually SHOULD be so depressed? (And start considering a more substantial backup list?)

Thanks!

your Ec’s are little light bu not very bad at alll. I think your a ■■■■■ and you have nothing to be depressed about, i mean wth.

Of course your chances are low (at Ivies/Stanford…not sure about the others), just like they’re low for everyone. But I don’t think there’s any point in being depressed over it.
(And of course you should consider more safeties - you should apply to at least one school that you’re 100% certain you’ll be able to get into and pay for.)

Wow, congratulations on your perfect academic record and ACT score! I suspect your rather modest description of your ECs belies the reality. For example, president of City Council Youth, and president of some subset of the School Board alone seem like no small accomplishments involving leadership. These leadership roles as well as some of your other activities – Tobacco Coaltion, science outreach program – strike me as rather unique and interesting. What are you truly excited about and how deeply are you involved in any of this? I think you can improve your chances of admission to highly selective schools by fleshing out in compelling essays which of these you find meaningful. Also, a letter of recommendation from a member of city council or the school board may prove beneficial.

Does cost matter? If so, with your stats alone will qualify you for significant merit at many excellent schools, and, if presented in a more engaging light, I’d wager you could be in the running for merit at some of the more competitive schools.

What are you interested in studying?

UMI: Low match/Match
RPI: Safety
NEU: Low match
Georgetown: High match
Columbia: Reach
Yale: Reach
Harvard: Reach
Princeton: Reach
Stanford: Reach
U Chicago: High match (can you write stellar essays?)

Might want to consider Tulane on top of those; you can get a half-ride in merit aid there.

This is a ■■■■■

@Candles2014 - thanks for the advice (: Writing essays is kind of my weak point, so that definitely will require a lot of effort. I’ll probably be studying Applied Mathematics with a focus on International Finance or Economics.

@Catria - thanks! Never considered Tulane, but definitely will look into that (: And hah, as I said, not great at writing essays. But I’m working on it.

HYPS, Columbia are definitely tough. UChicago is slightly easier. I think you should get in for sure at the rest, though GTown might waitlist/reject you for yield protection. Definitely also consider Wharton @UPenn since you seem to have a strong interest in business.

ECs are light for Ivies but perfect stats. HARVARD AND YALE are prob tough for you

An obviously trolling thread.
