Does anyone know anything about the BA Theater Program at Suffolk University in Boston? They supposedly have a very good theater department but I can't find anything about them here. D is considering it and I would love info. Thanks!

We met with a senior admissions counselor last June about this very topic. As I recall, Suffolk encourages the theater majors to get involved with local community productions. I don’t believe they have much in the way of their own facilities, unlike neighboring Emerson, but this particular admissions officer was very upbeat and said the university was very supportive.

My d was charmed and intrigued by this non-diva-esque approach, but chose to pursue programs with greater structure and more comprehensive on-site facilities.

Suffolk has three theaters…Studio Theater which sounds similar to a black box, where students have the learning experience, The Walsh Theater for some of their main productions, and the newly renovated Modern Theater. The Modern Theater is now showing a musical production called “Car Talk” from the NPR show by the same name. It was written by a Suffolk teacher and received good reviews from the Boston Globe. The cast has many Suffolk students. This is all at the Suffolk University website.

The Modern Theater is in the area of Boston going through some nice renovations to some old buildings. First was the Emerson Majestic followed by the Opera House and the other Emerson theater, The Paramount. Now comes the Modern Theater. all are on Washington Street. If they can just do something with that giant hole formally Filenes, it will be a great area.
